Ok so apparently follower counts on Facebook do transfer over followers for the official POTUS AND VPOTUS pages on Facebook. Twitter has different rules.
Yes I was also. :( First thing that popped up when I opened FB was a thing that said he changed his cover photo. Then when I went on again first thing I saw was that JD changed his cover photo. :( I went and saw I was following them and I wasn't before. I blocked both of them. I checked my dad's account for him and he was not but this was later in the day so not sure if something changed later. I blocked them for him also in case FB made him follow them later.

Was alerted that I was following Melania by a friend. I checked potus and VP accounts and wasn’t following. Two hours later I’m suddenly following both accounts? The explanation they’re peddling doesn’t check out

Yes, and Zuck also forced me to follow the Trump White House page. I have now blocked all of them. Not just unfollowed, but blocked.
I deleted FB and INSTA so it will be interesting if my page gets reactivated which is concerning
